(Newark, DE)-State Senator David Sokola today celebrated his birthday by announcing his intention to run for re-election to the State Senate.

Sokola, who is best known for his work to improve Delaware’s educational system, spoke about unfinished business in his ongoing fight for public education.

“Our citizens deserve a Senator that fights for them instead of special interests,” said Sokola. “I will continue to work for my neighbors, my community, my state--just like I have always done. Together we can build a stronger community and a better future for ourselves and our children.”

Education Reform Leader to Seek Re-Election:
Senator Sokola to Announce Candidacy

(Newark, DE)-State Senator David Sokola today celebrated his birthday by announcing his intention to run for re-election to the State Senate.

Sokola, who is best known for his work to improve Delaware’s educational system, spoke about unfinished business in his ongoing fight for public education.

“Our citizens deserve a Senator that fights for them instead of special interests,” said Sokola. “I will continue to work for my neighbors, my community, my state--just like I have always done. Together we can build a stronger community and a better future for ourselves and our children.”

As chair of the State Senate Education Committee, Sokola successfully fought to pass legislation that guarantees state support for full day kindergarten. Research has shown the first few years of a child’s life is critical for future academic achievement. Over the past 16 years he has worked to increase funding for public schools, raise student standards, and give teachers the tools they need to control the classroom and increase the use of technology in the classroom.

Sokola is also well known for his work to bring the graduated drivers licensing system to Delaware. Under the system, teen drivers are required to receive more adult supervision and limit night driving and the number of passengers they can carry. As a result, teen car accidents and injuries dropped dramatically.

Sokola’s work on behalf of the environment includes conservation of parkland, protecting Delaware from high arsenic levels in soil and regulating aboveground chemical storage tanks.
