Orlando Fla.—On July 14, 2004, during the annual National Forum on Education Policy, 8th district Senator David P. Sokola took the position of Vice-Chairman of the Education Commission of the States (ECS). He will serve in the position until July 2006.
Sokola, who chairs the Senate Education Committee, has been a commissioner of ECS since 1993. He also serves on the steering committee for the organization. He will work closely with Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, who will serve as Chairman of ECS until July 2006. This appointment highlights Senator Sokola’s continued commitment to improving education, not just in the State of Delaware, but nationwide. In the last legislative session, Senator Sokola introduced a dozen bills a imed at strengthening Delaware’s educational initiatives. Sokola also chairs the Community/County Affairs Committee and serves on the Administrative Services, Banking, Insurance and Elections, Small Business and Sunset Committees. He has been representing the 8th Senate District since 1990. The Education Commission of the States (ECS) is a national, nonprofit organization that helps governors, legislators, state education officials and others identify, develop and implement public policies to improve student learning at all levels. A nonpartisan organization, ECS was formed in 1965 and is located in Denver, Colorado. |
