(Newark, DE)-State Senator David Sokola today celebrated his birthday by announcing his intention to run for re-election to the State Senate.

Sokola, who is best known for his work to improve Delaware’s educational system, spoke about unfinished business in his ongoing fight for public education.

“Our citizens deserve a Senator that fights for them instead of special interests,” said Sokola. “I will continue to work for my neighbors, my community, my state--just like I have always done. Together we can build a stronger community and a better future for ourselves and our children.”

State Senator David P. Sokola (D-Newark) will be among those pedaling to Legislative Hall this month, as he participates in the 17th Annual Legislators’ Bike to Work event. The event is held each year to encourage commuters to consider alternatives to using the car in order to get to and from work.

Dover – Senator David P. Sokola (D-Newark), Representative Melanie George Marshall (D-Bear/Newark), Senator Liane Sorenson (R-Hockessin) and Representative Pamela Maier (R-Drummond Hill) will introduce Senate Bill 251 today, requiring school districts to provide full-day kindergarten as an option to all kindergarten-eligible children throughout Delaware. The legislation was prompted by the June, 2005 release of the results from a research study comparing children in the state’s10 full-day kindergarten pilot programs to children attending half-day kindergarten.

Dover – Homeowners in Delaware should see fewer policy cancellations and will get new information about their coverage under a package of new homeowner insurance initiatives announced by Insurance Commissioner Matt Denn Thursday. Tougher penalties for, and increased responsiveness from, insurance companies were also part of the announcement.  The proposed regulation is similar to homeowner protections sought by state Sen. David Sokola as part of Senate Bill 173.
