The deadline for students to apply is 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2005. At least 62 scholarships will be given to students throughout Delaware. First place winner will receive $8,250. In 1999, the General Assembly voted to create the Legislative Essay Scholarship. If you know a student who will be a high school senior during the 2005-2006 school year, please encourage them to enter the contest. This is a great opportunity for students to expand their knowledge of American history and earn money for college. Each representative and senatorial district in the state may award one nonrenewable $750 college scholarship to the student who writes the best essay on this year's topic, "Benjamin Franklin: A Significant Leader in Founding Our Country." District winners compete for three statewide nonrenewable awards of $7,500, $3,750, and $2,250. Once again, the deadline for students to apply is 4:30 p.m. on Thursday December 1, 2005. Applications and contest rules are available from high school guidance counselors; upon request by contacting the Delaware Higher Education Commission at 302-577-5240, or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
